TOYOTA GAZOO Racing entered four-crew team in Dakar Rally 2022 held on January 2nd to 14th in the Saudi Arabian city of Ha’il. The works team consisted of Nasser Al-Attiyah and navigator Mathieu Baumel; Giniel de Villiers and navigator Dennis Murphy; Henk Lategan and Brett Cummings will return for their second Dakar; and Shameer Variawa and navigator Danie Stassen. The Team brought great result as below.

Overall victory for Nasser/Mathieu
Top 5 finish for Giniel/Dennis
2 times stage win for Henk/Brett through the Rally
Top 15 finish for Shameer/Danie

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing team has been competing at the Dakar Rally since 2012 and, as TOYOTA GAZOO Racing South Africa, achieved Toyota‘s first overall victory in 2019. Since its first Dakar Rally entry, the team recorded best overall results of 3rd (2012), 2nd (2013), 4th (2014), 2nd (2015), 3rd (2016), 5th (2017), 2nd (2018), 1st (2019) , 2nd (2020) and 2nd (2021). For the rally 2022, the team entered to the race with all-new Toyota GR DKR Hilux T1+ built and developed in South Africa which conforms to the updated regulations for the T1 category and strongly got back for the champion.

Also, Akira Miura and Laurent Lichtleuchter from Team Land Cruiser TOYOTA AUTO BODY won the 9th Consecutive Victory in the Production Car Category. It was a spectacular finish for Land Cruiser 200.
